Choosing a Colour

Carpet Factory bulk buys stock rolls of carpet and to keep prices low, quite often manufacturers provide no samples with these special buys. So in order to get the best price when renovating or re-decorating your home, we recommend that you bring your preferred paint colours in to our store and match a carpet to suit.

There are limited colours available in carpets and infinite colour options available in paint, so to avoid disappointment or the expense of having to have a carpet colour custom made, Carpet Factory also recommends choosing a carpet colour while or before settling on your paint and curtain colour scheme.

If you have already painted or are simply replacing your old carpet, Carpet Factory recommends that you bring in your paint colour charts, a spare tile, curtain fabric or paint a piece of cardboard with your interior paint colour to easily choose your carpet from our discounted stock rolls.

If this is not an option an item of furniture or pillow that is representative of your décor can be the difference between agonising over that choice of colour and making your choice with confidence and certainty.

Rental - for a rental properties Carpet Factory recommends poly commercial carpet for it’s Durability, it’s stain proof fibre and low cost. Poly carpets are available mainly in loop pile construction (definitions of pile construstion are listed below) , in both commercial patterned styles and the popular sisal look. Poly carpet is almost impossible to stain, resists ware, is static free and when exchanging tenants, a professional carpet clean can rejuvenate a poly carpet so well, it can seems like new carpet for the next tennant.

Home - for your home Carpet factory recommends nylon, or wool carpet, depending on your budget and lifestyle. If you have young children and expect your carpet to sustain heavy usage and possible spills in the short term, we would suggest a stain treated nylon carpet with a protection like stainblock, scotchguard or stainmaster.

If you prefer something a little more luxurious Carpet Factory recommends a pure wool or high wool content blend carpet for it's crush resistance and luxurious look and feel. Wool carpets are superior in many ways to synthetic and blends and in the right application there is no substitute for wool.

Commercial - Commercial applications require consideration and thought when choosing a carpet. For a budget option, Carpet Factory stocks many low cost commercial rated carpets. For applications with high usage, fire rating requirements, computer safe and design considerations, our friendly staff have the knowledge and expertise to provide the best solution for your needs.

Carpet Pile Styles

Carpets are available in various pile constructions.

The most common form of domestic carpet is the cut (plush or twist) pile.

The most common form of commercial carpet is a loop pile.

Loop piles are comprised of an uncut continuous loop of fibre and tend to be a harder wearing construction.

Plush (or twist) piles have had the loops in the pile cut during the manufactureing process, giving a softer, richer feel and comfort.

Plush

"Plush" is a cut pile carpet that offers a plush, almost velvety finish. Each tuft is cut at the same height to create a luxuriously smooth finish. Plush pile carpets often show shades, adding to the character of the carpet.

• Plush piles are are available and peform best in pure Nylon stain treated fibre, and high content Wool Blend fibres.
• an 80% wool mix tends to be the best peformer in a wool blend, as the synthetic mix in high end wool blend provides strength and locks the wool fibres together in the cut pile, without compromising the excellent peformance qualities of the high wool content.

Sisal / Cord

Yarn is left in a loop, and is not cut to open tufts. As the name suggests the loops of the carpet are in rows of varying height, providing a stylish textured appearance that is durable and hard wearing.

(Please note, the name Sisal comes from natural woven plant fibres of sisal flooring, however it is now more comonly used to describe Sisal Look, or (high-low loop) Cord carpets made, not from sisal yarn, but from wool or synthetic fibres.

• Sisal/ Cord Loop piles are avialable in pure wool, 50/50 wool blends and pure synthetics.
• Pure wools cords are the best peformers in the long term, and are one of the most common forms of top of the line commercial carpets.
• 50/50 wool blends are the alternative to the luxurious pure wool look, without the higher price tag.
• and synthetic Sisal loop piles (most commonly made from polypropeleyne) are an excellent choice for rental propertys. Due to their stain proof druable fibre and tendency to steam clean well poly sisal carpets clean up well for the next prospective tennant.

Loop Pile

Twist Pile

"Twist" is a cut pile carpet that provides a rugged surface texture. Two or more yarns of fibre are twisted together, leaving each tuft of the carpet with a twist, adding texture, character and wearability to the carpet. Twist piles retain the softness and plush feel of a plush pile however the over twisting of the yarn helps hide the shading velvet look of a plush pile.

• Twist piles are avialable in high quality high wool blends (80/20) wool blends (50/50) and pure synthetics.
• Twist plies are most commonly used in domestic purposes and are popular in both hugh end wools and pure stain treated nylons and

Cleaning and maintainence

To maintain your carpet and ensure it looks good for the life of the carpet, Carpet Factory recommends the following procedures.

• Walk off mats should be used at all entrances to absorb soil and moisture from making progress through the house.
  
• A professional and reputable carpet cleaning professional should be used every few years, or if serious soiling or a stain occurs.
  
• Any cleaning with chemicals and cleaning agents should be tested in an inconspicuous area of the carpet (like a cupboard).
  
• Use of a quality vacuum cleaner with a brush beater to regularly clean and remove harmful sand and grit that can affect carpet wear, will prolong the life of your carpet and maintain it's look and feel.
  
• Nylon carpets can benefit from re-application of a Scotchguard or similar treatment after a few years of use. (Do not apply stain treatments to poly, wool or wool blend carpets as it will have no effect and is a waste of money)
  
• Clean stains immediately and you will have the greatest chance of removing the stain. (see stain removal guides below)
  
• Rugs in heavy traffic areas will also help maintain the look of your carpet, especially in rooms that are subject to regular use.

To maintain carpet in heavy wear areas like halls and doorways, Carpet Factory recommends the use of scatter rugs and runners.

When cleaning stains or soiling from carpet, DO NOT RUB!!! Always blot carpet with clean white towels. To lift liquid stains like red wine and coffee, stomp on carpet with a towel, repeat process by pouring water on the stain to dilute the liquid and stomping with a clean dry towel.

Remember to check manufacturers recommendations before cleaning any flooring product!
