Are natural fibre rugs stain-resistant?
It depends on which type of fibre you choose. Cotton rugs and wool rugs are known for their stain resistance and are almost as easy to clean as synthetic rugs. Wool rugs are also water-repellant and durable, making them a popular choice for high-traffic areas.
On the other hand, jute rugs are known for absorbing moisture and oil, which can cause stains to form. We don’t recommend jute rugs for wet areas, patios or outdoor settings with moisture around.
Can natural fibre rugs be cleaned in a washing machine?
No, natural fibre rugs are not suitable for washing machines. The best way to keep a natural rug clean is with regular vacuuming. For odours and stains, you can also sprinkle a dry cleaning powder on the affected area before vacuuming.
If you’re dealing with a stubborn stain, grease stain or moisture stain, try absorbing the stain with a cloth or paper towel. You can also wipe the area with a damp cloth — but be sure to soak up any remaining moisture after cleaning.

Are natural fibre rugs suitable for people with allergies?

Do natural rugs shed?
Shedding varies among natural fibre rugs. For example, wool rugs are known for their initial shedding, which decreases over time. Jute rugs also tend to shed fibres, especially when new. On the other hand, sisal and seagrass rugs are much less prone to shedding. Sisal's tight weave and hard fibres make it a durable, low-shedding option, while seagrass, with its smooth, waxy fibres, is naturally resistant to shedding.
Are natural fibre rugs soft?

Can natural fibre rugs be used outdoors?
While natural fibre rugs add warmth and texture to indoor spaces, most are unsuitable for outdoor use due to their sensitivity to moisture and sunlight. Prolonged exposure to rain can lead to mould and mildew growth, and sunlight can cause fading and deterioration.
However, some natural fibres like hemp are more resilient and can be used in covered outdoor areas with minimal exposure to the elements.
